Kevin Connor has held solo exhibitions in Australia since 1962, as well as spending extended periods working in Paris and London. He was a Lecturer in Painting and Drawing at the National Art School, Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education and the City Art Institute, Sydney from 1976 to 1987. 

 
Since his first exhibition in 1962, Kevin Connor has held more than 60 solo shows throughout his life, including over 25 participations in the Archibald Prize. Connor won the Archibald in 1975 and 1977, the Sulman Prize in 1991 and 1997, and the Dobell Prize for Drawing in 1992 and 2005. He was the Harkness Fellow in New York from 1966 to 1968 and a respected trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 1981 to 1987. The first major survey of his work was held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 1989. In 2006 Hendrik Kolenberg curated a major retrospective of Connor’s drawing, sculpture and painting at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Connor's work is held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, most state galleries and many regional and tertiary galleries. An extensive monograph of the artist’s work was published in 2016.

Connor is represented by Defiance Gallery, Sydney.

 

That the nature of fine art is both enigmatic and non-commercial was nothing short of life-changing - a realisation that has stayed with me well into my old age.
