Robert Bell works in raw mild steel, contrasting sharp lines and curving forms to create beautifully balanced sculptural compositions. Robert works in a variety of sizes, from small 6x6x6cm pieces to larger works that suit an outdoor setting.
Robert’s work is included in a number of private collections throughout Australia. Robert has been showing with Defiance for a number of years, regularly exhibiting in group shows such as the January Sculpture Show and the annual 6x6x6 Inch Miniature Sculpture Show.
Robert studied at West Wollongong TAFE under sculptor Kevin Norton.
My sculpture is arrived at by seeing and just as importantly feeling a work into some sort of realized form. This feeling process involves closing the eyes and employing a tactile response. There are no preconceived ideas or a theme as such other than what is arrived through the processes described herein. There are no preliminary sketches or models, a work is determined by how elements particularly relate to each other as well as in the final work as a whole. Work always starts out as abstract in nature and generally stays that way, but occasionally can drift towards semi-abstraction.
