Kaisa May
Born California, USA
Lives & Works Sydney (Eora)
Kaisa May is a multidisciplinary artist working across a range of materials and supports, exploring the tension between abstraction and figuration through bold, gestural mark-making and a stripped-back, monochromatic palette.
A foundation to her practice is life drawing. The direct and responsive nature of figure drawing provide visual discoveries that are carried into her abstract paintings. Valuing materiality, spontaneity and intuition, new methods of expression evolve.
May has a Bachelor of Arts from California State University Fresno with core concentration in Art History. She studied and attended painting masterclasses at the National Art School Sydney.
Her work has been included in numerous group exhibitions, including Liverpool Street Gallery, Duckrabbit, Hunters Hill Art Gallery and the SHAC (Southern Highlands Artist Collective). She is a resident artist at OnePlus2 Studios in Lilyfield and a member of the Glebe Life Drawing Group. Her work is held in private collections in Australia, New Zealand and USA.
May was a finalist in the inaugural Defiance Award in 2026.
