Lives & Works Sydney (Eora)
Jan King was born in Cunnamulla, Queensland. She has studied widely both in Australia and overseas, from Academia di Belle Arti in Perugia to the National Art School and the New York Studio School.
King is known for her sculptures made from waxed and painted steel, which she exploits to its full potential to create fluid and lyrical works that contradict our expectations of this material.
In 2002, she was awarded the Woollahra Sculpture Prize and has been the recipient of the Art Omi Creative Grant, New York, USA.
Her work is held in numerous private and public collections including Artbank, Casula Powerhouse, Clayton Utz Collection, University of Technology, Sydney, Macquarie Bank Collection, Liverpool City Council, Woollahra Council, Macquarie University, University of Western Sydney and Australian National University.
