Tony Slater: The Whirlwind of Now

"Finding no signposts in the maze of modernism that didn't point to style in one form or another, I became a realist painter. This made sense on coming to the wonderful light of Australia.
But a couple of years ago the feeling of purpose in depicting coherent visual space dissolved, and was replaced by ideas and meanings that barely seem my own.
To claim this work to be a kind of realism would be disingenuous, but it does parallel and acknowledge the uncentredness, the slippage of being in the man-made whirlwind of NOW."
