Lives & Works Thirroul (Tharawal)
Ivor Fabok is a graduate of Fine Art (painting) from the City Art Institute, Sydney and has an MFA (drawing & sculpture) from the National Art School in Sydney, where he also taught Sculpture, Drawing and Painting for over three decades.
He has exhibited regularly since 1982 and in addition to an active studio practice, teaches interdisciplinary art classes at the Clifton School of Art. His work has has been commissioned for the American Express building, Sydney and the Hyatt Coolum, Queensland and is included in the Wollongong Art Gallery permanent collection as well as many private collections both in Australia and internationally.
“Listening to sound works, modern classical music and in particular avant-garde jazz has always been inspirational to me in terms of visual expression, its lyricism and ability to suggest form underpin compositional structure that invite you to improvise upon. It’s an intuitive process, you build, destroy and recompose constantly, establishing a rhythmic interplay, a call and response dialogue that’s similar to what I imagine improvising musicians refer to as being in the ‘zone’. For a work to succeed the artist must give over to the evolving internal logic of the work at hand.”
